– Poetry: Is an art. It is sweet to the soul.

The Festival Poetry Calabar 2018, an initiative of by Poets in Nigeria (PIN), took place in Calabar from 20th December to 22nd December 2018. Poets in Nigeria is initiated by Sir Eriata Oribhabor. The theme of the event was: “The Problem with Silence”.

Our 9-year old son, Augustine Ellah, attended the Festival Poetry in Calabar. After his attendance on the first day of the event, Augustine wrote the poem below:

A Woman

A woman is a Saviour in time of need
She has no time to frown
A stick of stone can break her bone
She stands erect firmly
She brings babies to the world
She is kind and beautiful
With a loving heart!

This was elating. We encourage Augustine and kids in general to take up poetry. Parents can encourage this literary art and expose their wards to such opportunities to grow their creative thinking.

Poets are thinkers. Actually, I realized that they are an interesting kind of people to be with. They dare to think differently and explore the world of words so beautifully. I guess I have become a poet to because I now write “beginnners’ poems” and I love thinking.
