-Best Gift Employees Can Give their Employer-
“In times of change, it is the employees who grow that influence the workplace and determine what happens.” – Oladimeji Olutimehin
What is the best gift you can give anyone, most especially your employer and colleagues in the workplace? It is the gift of a better you, not profit or monetary gift. The other gifts are simply the by-products of you working on yourself to become better.
This is why we agree with Jim Rohn, when he said, “If you work hard on your job you can make a living, but if you work hard on yourself you can make a fortune.” You must continually work on yourself to keep becoming better. When you get better, everything will get better. Your work and performance will never get better until you get better.
When you see an organization that is producing a mediocre result, just know that the people working in it are not investing in themselves to get better. They are simply not becoming valuable to their employer.
It is unfortunate most employees don’t know this. They give their work so much of what they have to please their employer and to earn more and not knowing that the best way to make their employers happy is for them to keep becoming better and better. Better people make their workplace better.
Every result you are going to produce for your employer must come out of who you are. And if you are not improving and getting better, you result will soon become obsolete; you won’t be able to solve the problems of the workplace again.
Why do employees not invest time, resources and effort in working harder on themselves to become better? We believe it is because improvement is hard at the beginning and messy in the middle. People who are not mentally tough give up easily. It could take years before you can see the results of self-improvement. But it pays.
Four things will happen when you invest in yourself to become better each day:
- You will do more
- You will produce better results
- You will add more value
- You will earn more
We advise that the best time to start working on yourself is yesterday and the second-best time is today. Working on yourself today will result in better opportunities for your tomorrow. As Jerry Rice said, “Today I will do what others won’t, so tomorrow I can do what others can’t.” If you don’t work on yourself today and endure all the hardness, you won’t position yourself to do what others cannot do tomorrow.
The effect of self-improvement compounds over time. If you give up as many do because it seems to take longer, you will benefit little from it. You must be ready to stay in the game and keep at it until the benefits show. Keep improving yourself, and your opportunity will certainly come.
An improved version of you both in character, attitude, skills, mindset, and habits is the best gift you can give anyone. When you improve, your interaction and impact on people’s lives will increase. Invest in becoming a better employee for your employer and team members.
