Your PVC will Determine Your ATM Card’s Worth – Pyrates
The National Association of Seadogs (also known as Pyrates Confraternity) has called on the electorate in Nigeria to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), stating that ownership and good use of the cards would translate to the worth of transactions on Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards.  The call is contained in one of the fliers released yesterday to sensitize the citizenry on the power of their votes.

Here is the flier’s message:

Pyrates

This call arises from the fact that the strength of every nation’s economy is allied to the policies and actions of elected political office holders. Therefore, it is important to obtain and use PVCs in electing those who can improve our society’s economy. An improved economy would add value to financial transactions on ATM cards.

Other fliers also contain similar messages on the benefits of obtaining PVCs. The messages all state that “your votes count”.

According to reliable reports, there is widespread public apathy towards registration for collection of PVCs. In Cross River State for instance, over 100,000 (one hundred thousand) PVCs have reportedly not been collected.

Consequently, Pyrates Confraternity seeks to redress this anomaly and bequeath a better society for Nigeria. In Cross River State, Calabar Municipal’s branch of the confraternity plans to stage a street march on Saturday, August 18 2018, to further sensitize the citizenry on their civic rights.

Pyrates confraternity was formed in 1952 by Prof Wole Soyinka and six others. Since then, members of the confraternity have always joined hands to combat the ills that militate against the attainment of an egalitarian society.

The current sensitization campaign on collection of PVCs is in line with that tradition of attempting to rid Nigeria of the bane of conservatism.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced yesterday that the deadline for Continuous Voter Registration has been extended by two weeks. The Commission had earlier given Friday, August 17, 2018, as deadline for that exercise.  Pyrates Confraternity has vowed to maintain its tempo of sensitization on civic rights, ahead of the 2019 general elections in Nigeria.
