“Entire Teachers of Cross River State”, please Explain!
Teachers in Cross River State owe the good people of this state explanations about the wordings of a banner that was mounted opposite Governor’s office Calabar, last Thursday. That banner proclaims that: “THE NIGERIA UNION OF TEACHERS AND THE ENTIRE TEACHERS OF CROSS RIVER STATE WELCOMES YOUR EXCELLENCY SEN. PROF. BEN AYADE (THE MESSIAH OF OUR TIME) BACK FROM VACATION. THE TEACHERS WISHES YOU WELL”.
Ironically, Teachers of public primary and secondary schools in Cross River State are currently on a strike action, following directives by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) that they shun their duty posts until the union directs otherwise. The union alleged in a statement signed by its officials that the Cross River State government “has abandoned the teachers of the state to their fate”, concerning some financial and promotion issues.
Consequently, public primary and secondary schools in Cross River State have been under lock and key for the past three weeks. According to reports, this development prevented students of such schools from taking part in National Examinations.
Against this background, “the entire teachers of Cross River State” need to explain why learning and teaching is not taking place in their schools, at a time when the State is being governed by “the messiah of our time”. In the first instance, whose government “abandoned the teachers of the state to their fate”? “The messiah” of another time? We need to know.
It is good to wish the Governor well. He deserves everybody’s goodwill. However, unlike the Governor who went on a deserved vacation, pupils and students of public schools in Cross River State have been on an undeserved vacation. Are the “entire teachers of Cross River State” trying to impress the State Governor at the expense of these children? Are these teachers using the current strike action to play politics? It is baffling.
These Teachers should kindly explain how they teach English Language to our children. Is “THE NIGERIA UNION OF TEACHERS AND THE ENTIRE TEACHERS OF CROSS RIVER STATE WELCOMES YOUR EXCELLENCY” grammatically correct? Also, what do they mean by “THE TEACHERS WISHES YOU WELL”? They need to explain. The sooner they explain creditably, the better it would be, for the sake of this State’s good image.

Nice one!
I support this observation because the level of incompetence in the educational sector is becoming alarming.
Very alarming. Thanks, Beshel.
Comment Text*They seem to be speaking from two sides of the mouth.
Inconsistency isn’t endearing. Thanks for your comment.
It’s sycophantic. “The spiral of silence theory” propounded by Elizabeth Noelle Neumann a German scholar,is what is killing us in our societies. Ayade is not the “messiah” and would never be. Instead of praising these politicians, we should tell them were they got it wrong for the growth of our democracy.
Professor Ben Ayade is Governor of Cross River State. Sycophancy won’t help him in the discharge of his office. Lets always tell him the truth and accord him the required high respect and goodwill.
