“Aisha Buhari Doesn’t Belong in ‘The Other Room’”, Says Senator Bruce
Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, representing Bayelsa East Constituency in Nigeria’s Senate, has stated that the actions and utterances of Hajia Aisha Buhari as Nigeria’s First Lady indicate that she does not belong “in the other room”. He stated this in a tweet posted on his twitter handle (@benmurraybruce) yesterday.
Senator Bruce wrote: “Let me state that by the actions and utterances of @aishambuhari since she became Nigeria’s First Lady, it’s my opinion that she does not belong in the ‘other room’. She is a very intelligent woman that has the capacity to lead and lead well. Your Excellency, please never be cowed!”
Apparently, those complimentary words on the First Lady are informed by her action yesterday where she posted Oak TV Online’s video clips showing Senator Ben Murray-Bruce making uncomplimentary remarks about Nigeria on the floor of the Senate. She posted the video on her twitter account (@aishambuhari). Before then, her most recent post on twitter was a message of goodwill sent on Christmas Day (25th December 2017).
In the video, Senator Bruce said: “It seems to me that Nigeria is becoming a lawless country. A country with no rules and regulations. A country where laws are not adhered to. A country where there is no consequence for bad behavior. We either have a government or we don’t. We either have security agencies or we don’t…. These are the fundamentals at stake today….”
Similarly, Hajia Aisha Buhari posted another video from Oak TV Online, showing Senator Isah Misau of Bauchi Central, criticizing Nigeria’s Federal Government. He said: “Today the DG NIA that was just appointed, is he qualified to be there? He is not qualified. This is a person that failed two exams. We know. He failed two exams.”
“And just because he is close to the cabal, he is close to the people taking decisions, he was appointed…. So many incompetent people are holding so many positions…. Fifty percent of the Ministers are not performing. Since the time the President assumed office he has not taken any decision to check this country. Today we are seeing it and everybody is avoiding it. Nobody wants to say anything….”
It would be recalled that during his visit to Germany in October 2016, President Muhammadu Buhari reportedly said: “I don’t know which party my wife belongs to, but she belongs to my kitchen and my living room and the other room.” That was after the First Lady told the BBC that she might not support her husband at the next election unless he took full control of his government.
Obviously, Senator Bruce’s tweet is an allusion to President Buhari’s comment on his wife.
