Sahara Reporters Publish “Bizarre Document” from Kogi Government
Sahara Reporters have published what it described as a “bizarre document”, reportedly emanating from the government of Kogi State

The document is a letter containing a directive from Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State to the Vice Chancellor of Kogi State University on preferred candidates for the University’s Students Union election.

The letter bears the name and purported signature of Mrs Ayoade Falashade Arike, Secretary to the Government of Kogi State.

A tweet posted today on Sahara Reporters’ twitter account (@SaharaReporters) states: “Bizarre Document: Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello writes VC of Kogi State University to recommend ‘favoured’ students for the students union election”.

The “bizarre document” has attracted several adverse reactions on twitter. For instance, Ugo Kingsley (@Ugoking) wrote: “Even the signature on that letter will tell you the state of that state. They have made a mockery of governance. A big shame to the youths”.

Also, TERRYFICK (@terryfick) wrote: “In the interest of peace and security, state governments have been known to interfere and influence SUG elections in schools.  However,  choosing to do so brazenly and by putting it to writing in this manner is disgraceful and embarrassingly tactless of the KGSG. Shame!!”

Similarly, King Joel Agho (@Kingjoelagho) wrote: “It is over! Nigeria has lost to idiots. O my 2019 is the solution. My PVC, My Power to correct. “

However,  Kehinde Olasunbo H (@Kennysinbad) seems sceptical. He wrote: “Looking at the signature on that letter, one can doubt the authenticity of the document. If the letter is genuine,  then we can all have a minute silence for student unionism in Kogi State…. The Olympus has fallen.”

Meanwhile, a document obtained from the handle of a twitter user known as The Godfather (@Ayourb) indicates that the Government of Kogi State has disclaimed Sahara Reporters’ “bizarre document”.

See the document below:

The Godfather wrote: “Looking at the fake letter and the rebuttal signed by the Secretary to the Kogi State Govt, one hope @SaharaReporters will have the decency to bring down their tweet misinforming Nigerians and be big enough to apologise for their hasty reaction.”

As at the time of filing this report, Sahara Reporters had not reacted to that disclaimer.
